HISTORY
For over four generations our family has lived on this hill. We are 260
metres above sea level amongst the forests and under the clear skies in North
Karelia. In our local surroundings, and sometimes in our yard, live some of
Finland’s greatest predators: bears, wolves, wolverines and lynx.
PikkuKili - Countryside Experience Yard began in 1993. Prior to 1993 milking
cattle were raised.
Records show that the first settlers came to the hill in 1895.

House built in 1982 where your hosts reside.
The experience yard is located in the peace of nature. In the surroundings live bears, wolves, wolverines and
lynxes.
During 1996 a bear intruded and attacked the biggest pig. The bear had to be
taken down by one of the local hunters.

House built in 1920.

The third generation has built and cleaned the area since
1970. Electricity came to the hill in 1975! The stable was built
in 1974 and housed milking cattle until 1995.
The pond was added to the yard during the years 1977-1987. The water to the
pond comes from several springs and has an average depth of about six metres.
We have planted perch, pike and rainbow trout into the pond where they now thrive
naturally. We currently plan on growing crayfish. During autumn and spring ground has
been transferred to the fields, altogether about 3000 tractor trailer loads.

In 1996 some shootings of the Annual Farm Worker's Rally were
taken. This is a fun event full of competitions, food and prizes.
